Things I like

Things I like

This page is specially reserved for the things I like. I have put the books and thoughts I like in categories, as they keep changing and increasing. Here is some stuff that I enjoy.

Websites :

Information driven :
Google – I basically like to google everything. Its the quickest way of finding on something and anything. (Don’t forget to use other tools that google offers like Google books, scholar, images, documents etc.)
Wikipedia – This free encyclopedia gives you some information about anything.
TED (Ideas worth spreading) – TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. TED has a collection of video talks from many different people all around the world, on their subjects. You can find talks on many different topics and genres. If you are really interested in something, I am sure you will find an expert talking about it here.
Video Lectures – This site is an academic version of TED. It features researchers, experts and scientists talking about the topics they are studying or are experts in. This site can be very useful for students.

Fun stuff :
Paulo Coelho – I have talked about him a lot, but this is his website. Paulo Coelho also has a blog that I visit two or three times a week. I not only admire his books, but gain a lot of advice from his blog.
Project Gutenberg – Gutenberg is a
n open source place for ebooks. You can get ebooks that are not under any copyrights. (Useful for old books like Sherlock Holmes, Robert Frost poems etc.)
Quotes – I have mentioned this in the ‘Thoughts’ section of the blog, but brainy quote, thinkexist and wikiquote are the best sites to get quotes. When great people have left a sea of knowledge for us, we should at least swim a little bit.
Manogat – A good marathi website for new literature, poems, recipes and events. If you are an aspiring poet or author, this is a good place to post your writing and get free feedback from readers.

Web comics :
PhD Comics – I like this site. It mostly has humour about PhD or post graduate students and their lives.
XKCD – This comic is also fun. I try to follow it regularly.

Books :

I have made a special section to discuss books on this blog, so will not write a lot here. But I really like Sherlock Holmes series(Sir Arthur Conan Doyle), Hercule Poirot series(Agatha Christie), Paulo Coelho’s books, The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand), The Sun Also Rises (Ernest Hemingway), The Great Gatsby (Scott Fritzgerald), Haroun and the Sea of Stories (Salman Rushdie), Grimus (Salman Rushdie), The Life of Pi (Yann Martell) and many many others. Please discuss individual books on the books section.

Music :

Mostly, I listen to Hindi, Marathi and Punjabi music. My favourite artists include Lucky Ali, Atif Aslam, Kailash Kher, Rabbi Shergill, Juggy D, Jay Sean, Mehsopuria, Jazzy B, Bohemia etc. I have recently become a big fan of poems and songs by Guru Thakur, Saleel Kulkarni and Sandeep Khare.

Movies :

I like movies that are either funny or have a great plot.
Hindi – Andaz Apna Apna, Chalti ka Naam Gaadi, Jhankaar Beats, Dil Chahata Hai, 3 Idiots and many more.
Marathi – Natarang, Ratra Arambh, Pinjra.
English – Glory Road, Shawshank Redemption, Poirot movies, Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man, Coach Carter, 300, The Last Samurai, Mission Impossible(s), Oceans (all three), Invictus, Matrix (all three), Pirates of the Carribean (all three), District 9, National Treasure, Bruce Almighty, Fracture and many many more.

I think I have covered everything on this page. If I have left anything out and you have specific questions, please ask and I will answer them. Thanks.
